As I discussed with my group I have not given copy right laws or guidelines much thought. I as an educator do not have the time to create items for my students to view or use. I think that educators are given a little more leeway on the items that they use. I think it is important to give credit to whom it belongs to. I tell my students when they are using reports or finding fast facts off of the internet they need to summarize what they learned and not use the authors words exactly. I think if I teach my students not to use others words this will hopefully carry with them into the future.

Yes, educators are given a little more freedom through the fair use guidelines, and you are right about giving credit. When it comes to our students, I think it's more than not using the words of others. It's giving credit to media and ideas that are not original. At the primary level, that might mean just naming a book title or a person. That's great that you are working with your young students on issues of intellectual property rights.
